Ive been working on this - see my issue que post at http://drupal.org/node/241826
With cck_map (http://drupal.org/project/cck_map), a user need not enter their address, just click on the (edit) map to produce their "marker". I started with cck_map as I thought perhaps that's what you (Michelle) were using - I'll look into Location/Gmap as well.
Tomm T, have you made any head way?
