Offlinethis post is a reply to a another users "guestbook" entry on your profile page. I wanted to see how it displays.
I could have just left my own new "guestbook" entry, but I thought that if I posted a reply to someone else's post, it would give me an idea as to whether or not I'd want to use this "modified comment method" masquerading as a guestbook, instead of using the real Guestbook.module. I'm also making this rather 'wordy' to see if there was a limit to the length. I feel that there should be, as who would want to see someone leave a WAY TOO LONG "guestbook" entry - let alone a reply to one?
I also thought that using the "comment" module as a "guestbook" opens the door for what amounts to an unwanted (in my opinion) "forum" on a user's profile page - i.e. comment/reply, comment/reply/reply etc. etc.
BTW - lostreception, what do you think about allowing other users to "reply" to a guestbook entry (what I would consider should be a "personal message") left for you?
Here's a URL - http://socnet.shellmultimedia.com/node/578 wanted to see if those were allowed. As I would think that if they are, and without "captcha" protection - then this would be an avenue for spammers to use - not a good thing.
To wrap things up - lostreception, please comment me (on my "guestbook") as to whether or not you were able to delete this post. I think that IF I were to use this "guestbook" method, than certainly a user should be able to delete an unwanted entry such as this - or at LEAST be able to edit it.
Please let me know
I prefer the idea of individual forums to the usual guestbooks but maybe that's just me. As to the comment deleting, I need to install http://drupal.org/project/usercomment on here.

well, I now understand your personal preference, but the question is - would each/every profile "owner" (lostreception in this case) want to see what amounts to an impromptu forum created on his profile?
I mean after all, isn't that what the FORUM is for? I personally don't see the need for allowing them to appear uninvited on/in a user's "personal" profile page. I would say that if he/she wanted to be a forum moderator..........
All I'm saying Michelle, is shouldn't the Forum be for forums and a Guestbook (whichever used) be just that - a place to leave "one-liner" type "Hiyas"?
There isn't a "should" in this. It's up to whoever builds the site to decide what's best for their needs. Under normal circumstances, you wouldn't start a conversation in some random person's guestbook. But this is a demo site so *shrug*. On my site, I prefer having the whole conversation in one spot rather than this commenting back and forth between guestbooks that you have on myspace and such. You're free to do whatever you like on your sites.

that's a rhetorical "you" -right? No You wouldn't, I wouldn't - but ANYone - CAN -and "they" will.
and - "having the whole conversation in one spot rather than this commenting back and forth between guestbooks" - that's just my point - we CAN - and we ARE - much to the chagrin of the profile owner, I'm sure, if this was a production site.
It's not a production site. It's a demo site. So I'm not getting what the big deal is. Why are you so worried about how I have the demo site set up? That's not meant to be sarcastic... I'm seriously not understanding what the big deal is.

duh! pretty obvious from my "if [IF, my emphasis] this was a production site" comment, that I'm very aware that "It's a demo site".
Where you get the idea that I think anything is a "big deal" or that I'm "so worried". No, not me making a "big deal" or "worrying", I'm just doing what I thought was the purpose for this site - - D_E_M_O_ing.
If you'd actually read, without reading into, my original DEMO guestbook post above, where I delineate EXACTLY what I was try to accomplish, i.e:
1- "I wanted to see how it displays"
2- "an idea as to whether or not I'd want to use this [guestbook portion of AdvProfile]"
3- "making this rather 'wordy' to see if there was a limit to the length"
4- see if it "amounts to an unwanted (in my opinion) "forum" on a user's profile page"
5- [URL] "see if those were allowed"
6- see if "you [lostreception] were able to delete this post"
I believe that would be D_E_M_O_ing.
As you say on the index "Feel free to make an account and try things out. If you just want to post garbage to test, that's allowed". Are you chastising me for doing just that? Or did you really mean "try things out, but keep your opinions & observations to yourself if they don't fall in line with my own".
Geez! Why would anyone "demo" if it wasn't to see IF they wanted to use something on their own (production) site?

Hey, you're the one that PM'd me about it. I assumed, wrongly I guess, that there was some issue here you wanted to discuss. I guess not. So go on demoing. I'll leave you to it.
